Don’t call yourself a programmer: “Programmer” sounds like “anomalously high-cost peon who types some mumbo-jumbo into some other mumbo-jumbo.”  If you call yourself a programmer, someone isalready working on a way to get you fired.

Don’t compromise your vision, don’t compromise your opinion. If you think 12px font looks best in an interface, don’t allow people to move it to 10px. If you could never picture yourself changing a setting to anything else but A, don’t even give the option to change it to B. Just don’t do it. Build software for you. There are many, many people out there just like you who will appreciate it.

Avoiding a dramatic flameout is Job #1 for the young company. My bet is that five years from now, most users will think of Dropbox only in the context of “Whatever happened to?”

Although I agree to the point that Dropbox is a “feature” and not a product, I’d like to see where they go with the battle with iCloud.
